Sales/Account Representative, Grain and Crop Inputs

Our client is looking for a Sales/Account Representative in Rycroft, Alberta. Reporting to the Sales Leader, the Sales/Account Representative will handle a full portfolio of products while primarily conducting business “at the kitchen table”. This position will create value for customers by providing proactive information and knowledge to help make good decisions for their farms. The Sales/Account Representative will manage business relationships with farm customers and will primarily work with farmers who value having a main point of contact for their farming and business needs. These strategic customers will typically be larger sized farmers who prefer to do business at their place of business.

Key Responsibilities

70% Sales and Financial Results:

  • Achieve revenue targets by creating value for customers by connecting with farmers in a defined geographic territory

  • Originate grain; sell GMAs, ProPricing, and work with the Grain Marketing Advisor to sell and (re)sign customers to Grain Marketing Services

  • sell fertilizer, seed and crop protection products and work with the Agronomic Advisor to sell and (re)sign customers to Agronomy Services.

  • Build productive, long-term business relationships, develop comprehensive knowledge of customers’ business and manage the account to the benefit of the customer by learning about their business, analyzing their needs, and influencing their business decisions in order to provide successful solutions in the primary area of grain, crop inputs, and solutions while working collaboratively with the sales team in the areas of grain, crop inputs, and solutions

  • Work cross functionally with Grain Marketing Advisors and Agronomists to identify and sell consulting services to the customers within their sales territories.

  • Manage the credit allocated to their customers based on company accounts receivable policies

20% Execute Customer Focus Fundamentals:

  • Optimize strategic sales planning and time allocation through customer segmentation

  • Participate in weekly customer focus meetings

  • Utilize CRM tools, i.e. SalesForce, to ensure all customer information is captured on a regular basis

  • Work cross functionally with local sales team to proactively identify and pursue new customer opportunities

10% Job Development and Collaboration:

  • Proactively use every opportunity to increase their knowledge of the agriculture industry, skills in agronomy, grain marketing, and understanding of the products and services offers

  • Attend sales, marketing, and community relations activities such as grower meetings, supplier meetings, community events, and field tours.

  • Teamwork and collaboration are essential to this position; must be able to work cross function with sales and consulting teams


Qualifications / Skills

  • Related post-secondary education in Business or Agriculture or 1-2 years of equivalent work experience

  • Must possess a Canadian Driver’s License

  • Must understand the Canadian agricultural system including grain marketing, grain transportation, and crop production practices.

  • Knowledge of grain and crop input products, grain marketing practices and agronomic practices as well as grain and crop input operation knowledge

  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) software.

  • CCA certification is strongly encouraged or eligibility for CCA certification if market conditions require designation.

  • Highly developed selling skills: ability to identify opportunities and prospects, build customer relationships and close sales.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Basic Computer Skills
